Come Explore the Self-Realization Hermitage and Meditation Gardens
Welcome
Welcome to Self-Realization Fellowship, the international nonprofit society founded by Paramahansa Yogananda, widely revered as one of the preeminent spiritual figures of our time. His Autobiography of a Yogi has introduced truth-seekers all over the world to India's age-old philosophy of Yoga and its time-honored tradition of meditation. The universal teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda offer a science of spiritual exploration — one that enables us to create for ourselves spiritually harmonious lives, and to contribute to a more compassionate and peaceful world.
Hermitage Grounds and Gardens
Paramahansa Yogananda established the Self-Realization Fellowship Ashram Center in Encinitas in 1937. Here, at the Hermitage where he lived for many years, he wrote his Autobiography of a Yogi, widely regarded today as a modern spiritual classic. The Ashram Center and nearby Temple are located on the Pacific Coast, 100 miles south of Los Angeles and 25 miles north of San Diego.
Hours
The Hermitage is generally open on Sundays, 2:00-5:00 p.m., except in inclement weather. The meditation gardens, which include a small waterfall and koi pond, are open to the public 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Books and Gifts Store
Adjacent to the Encinitas Ashram’s well-known lotus towers and public meditation gardens, the SRF Books and Gifts Store occupies an ideal location on southern California’s main coast highway, where its striking exterior is seen daily by thousands of tourists and local residents. Featuring the complete line of SRF publications and recordings in many languages, as well as a large selection of arts and crafts, clothing, and musical instruments from India, the new store is intended to help advance one of the “Aims and Ideals” set by Paramahansa Yogananda: “to advocate cultural and spiritual understanding between East and West and the exchange of their finest distinctive features.”
Thank you and enjoy your visit!
